Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, an American-Canadian singer and songwriter. She has released over 20 albums. Her music is classified as folk rock and alternative rock although it also has influences from punk hip hop, hip-hop and jazz. A feminist icon widely recognized as Grammy winner Ani DiFranco was the founder of the DIY movement. She was one of the pioneers of artists who started her own label 1990. DiFranco was born on the 23rd of September 1970 in the city of Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who came across Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian descent, and her mother was born in Montreal. Ani diFranco composed and performed the song 32 Flavors. The track was first released in 1995 on the sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl. The track is in the soundtrack to the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate from 1999. In 2013, DiFranco apologised after it was revealed the fact that she had planned an event for three days at an old Louisiana slave farm. She cancelled it but many (including this piece) did not show any remorse. DiFranco released a second apology a couple of days after her first apology. Although she is known in the past as the Little Folksinger her music spans many types of music and collaborators, from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. She resides in New Orleans. Ani DiFranco has a relationship with Kristen Ford. By 14 she was writing her own songs. Through her teenage years she was performing her songs in bars and caf s. DiFranco began taking lessons at Buffalo State College at age 16 following her graduation from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.
